When the grid fails, every second counts.
If your facility still relies on someone manually switching over to generator power during a blackout, you’re operating on borrowed time.
By the time a team member reaches the changeover switch, critical systems may already be down. In a hospital, that’s life-critical equipment. In a data centre, that’s data loss and downtime. In a hotel, that’s a lobby full of frustrated guests.
There’s a smarter way. Let’s break it down.
What is an AMF panel?
An AMF (Automatic Mains Failure) panel is the brain of your backup power system.
The moment it detects a loss of mains supply, it:
- Sends a start signal to the generator
- Monitors the generator output until it stabilises
- Triggers the load transfer automatically, without any human involvement
No phone calls. No delays. No manual intervention.
What is an ATS panel?
An ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) is the muscle of the system.
Once the generator is running, the ATS is the mechanism that physically switches your electrical load from the grid supply to the generator, seamlessly and safely. It also handles the reverse transfer when mains power is restored.
How do they work together?
Think of the AMF as the controller and the ATS as the executor.
In a properly configured system, the AMF detects the fault and commands the ATS to transfer the load. Together, they can achieve changeover in as little as 10 to 30 seconds, fully automated.
Who needs this?
Any facility where downtime is not an option:
- Hospitals & clinics: uninterrupted power for critical care
- Data centres: protecting servers and connectivity
- Hotels & resorts: guest experience and operations
- Factories & warehouses: preventing costly production stoppages
- Commercial buildings: lifts, CCTV, fire systems, and more
At VoltEdge Power Solutions, we design, supply, install, and commission AMF and ATS panels across Sri Lanka, tailored to your generator capacity and load requirements.
From 20 kVA to 2000 kVA setups, our team ensures your changeover system is wired right, tested thoroughly, and ready when it matters most.
